Gynecomastia is breast enlargement in men and the male breast becomes feminine. This situation is becoming a social problem for men, especially today. Breast enlargement in men occurs due to excess breast tissue or adipose tissue. In general, male breast enlargement is seen in infancy, adolescence and old age. The growth in these periods is considered natural.

Other conditions that cause gynecomastia; obesity, hormonal problems, tumoral problems and drug-related causes. However, the most frequently observed are the conditions of unknown cause, which we call structural. Apart from these, the most important thing to pay attention to is breast enlargement due to breast cancer in men. This situation should be suspected especially in unilateral breast enlargement. Generally, the treatment is done with liposuction and removal of the breast tissue.

To Whom Is Gynecomastia Procedure Applied?

Gynecomastia is physiological in three periods (infancy, adolescence and old age), and surgical treatment is not applied during these periods and follow-up is recommended. Apart from these cases, it can be applied to patients over the age of 20.

What is done before the operation?

The most important point before surgery is to evaluate the patient in detail and to understand their expectations. At this point, it is important for the patient to have realistic expectations in order to obtain a satisfactory result after the operation. With the examination, the problems are revealed and the action to be taken is decided in order to get the best solution in line with these problems. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. Before the operation, the necessary blood tests and imaging tests are performed by the anesthesia and your suitability for the operation is evaluated.

What Awaits You During the Surgery Process

The most important point in gynecomastia surgery is the location of breast growth, fat tissue and breast tissue. In most patients, growth in adipose tissue is at the forefront. Removal of adipose tissue with liposuction is the best treatment method in this patient group. Today, this problem is easily solved with laser and vaser liposuction. In cases where the breast tissue enlarges in our patient, we remove the excess breast tissue with a semicircular incision made from the lower half of the nipple. These procedures are performed under general anesthesia.

The procedure takes an average of 2 hours. After the procedure, we place a drain to take the accumulated blood according to the size of the breast when necessary. We complete the operation with a printed dressing and corset application. After the surgery, there is minimal pain that is relieved with simple painkillers. We stay in the hospital for one night and discharge you the day after the surgery. We do your control on the 10th day after the operation.

In the patient group with advanced breast enlargement or sagging breasts after weight loss, removal of excess skin in addition to all these procedures allows us to achieve a better result. In general, in the group with advanced breast size, liposuction can be performed at first and according to the recovery status, if the skin does not recover as much as we want, skin excision can be performed. In the group with severe weight loss, we usually consider this procedure in the first place.
